How to alter your diet for gestational diabetes

Gestational diabetes is generally a short lived condition as it only occurs in pregnant women because her body cannot produce enough insulin to compensate for the needs of the baby in the womb. Since symptoms are typically absent or extremely mild, pregnant women are often screened for high blood glucose levels, that said, women afflicted by gestational diabetes need to be aware of their diets.

If you have gestational diabetes then it’s time to say goodbye to fried foods. The breading on most fried food is full of carbohydrates, typically has sugar added to it, and soaks up unhealthy oils. You really don’t want to be ingesting any of these unhealthy things, and for that matter neither does your baby. Similarly high sodium foods, soy sauce, and the like should be avoided as well.

If you are diabetic, one of the most crucial things is to have a proper diet. A diet consisting of plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, low sodium flavorings, and low-fat dairy products. This type of diet is important for overall health for anybody really, but for diabetics it’s important in order to keep blood glucose under control.
Gestational Diabetes Diet
If the initial screening is positive for high blood glucose levels, a second screening will be ordered by the physician, this is the A1C test. This test checks how well insulin is metabolizing ingested sugars over a time period. The condition is often treated through diet and moderate exercise, though many times exogenous insulin is required. Complications can arise, so women with gestational diabetes must be closely monitored through out pregnancy.
