Rough measurements – Keeping track of portions

As diabetics know, one of the key challenges is portion control and monitoring.  In the interest of that, and keeping a good diabetic diet, here is a quick and easy cheat sheet for tabulating portion sizes.

Quick estimates for eating:

1oz of Cheese is the size of a domino

1 cup of broccoli or cauliflower is the size of a lightbulb

3 oz of meat is the size of a deck of cards

1 medium apple is the size of a tennis ball

1 medium potato is the size of a computer mouse

1 cup of fruit is the size of a baseball

1 medium bagel is the size of a hockey puck

1 pancake is the size of a CD

1 cup of cereal is the size of a fist

¼ cup of raisins is the size of a large egg

2 tablespoons of peanut butter is a ping-pong ball

3 ounces of fish is the size of a checkbook

1 oz of nuts is a handful
